Color Blocking - With Courage to Color
Colors play a crucial role in the design of rooms. They can create moods, give personality and shape the entire character of a room. However, the correct use of color is an art that requires know-how and experience. In this article we dedicate ourselves to a particularly bold but also effective color design technique: color blocking.
WHAT IS COLOR BLOCKING?
It is a design method that uses color in high-contrast blocks or areas to create visual interest and define spaces. Inspired by the art and fashion of the 1960s, color blocking brings a fresh energy to a design concept and allows you to experiment with color in a bold yet appealing way. This technique can help define certain room environments or draw focus to a specific area within a room. This highlights eye-catching accents or certain living areas.
To create a meaningful and cohesive room look, it's important to find the right balance between harmony and contrast. Colors and materials should complement each other harmoniously and never clash.
Color blocking offers a creative way to play with colors and shapes to give a room a special atmosphere. The courage to combine different colors is rewarded with a unique and inviting living space that reflects the personality of its residents.
HOW IS COLOR BLOCKING USED IN HOMES?
• Choice of colors
Choose colors that match the mood you want to create in the room. The function of a room should also influence the choice of color. Strong colors are suitable for the living room or kitchen, while soft, calming colors are more suitable for the bedroom.
• Define areas
Areas that are to be highlighted in color must be defined in advance. It is also possible not to just concentrate on one room, but to connect two adjacent rooms through the color design.
• Planning and visualization
Before deciding on a meaningful design technique such as color blocking, the execution should be precisely defined. Color and material samples, mood boards and visualizations are helpful in order to be able to experiment with different color schemes in the room.
• Wall design
One of the most striking ways to incorporate color blocking is in wall design. The balance between strong and subtle tones must be taken into account here. Neutral tones can serve as a buffer between intense colors. A dominant color with one or two accent colors often works very well.
• Textures and materials
The combination of different materials can optimally emphasize the effect of color blocking. You have to be aware that the surface texture influences color perception. Reflective surfaces can make colors shine, while matte surfaces can give a muted impression.
• Decoration
Small details such as vases, lamps, pillows and other decorative items in contrasting colors are used to accentuate a room scene.
