Hello Green - Colour and Lighting

I enjoy incorporating colours into my designs of rooms and am not afraid of choosing bright colours. Colourful accents can bring more personality into a room and can also create a more uplifting and positive atmosphere. Unfortunately, many people shy away from the use of colour within their home. Not just because they don’t like bright colours but also because they fear that they will eventually regret their decision.

I try to encourage my clients to implement a colourful statement into one or more parts of their home because colours can have many positive effects on the residents:

⇒ Colours can directly influence our emotions. Especially warm and vibrant hues can act uplifting and positively impact our mood to create a cheerful atmosphere.

⇒ Vibrant and dynamic colours can improve our creativity and enhance our concentration. This is very important in work spaces, around children, and all other spaces where creative activities take place on a daily basis.

⇒ Warm and vibrant colours such as orange or red can act uplifting and help to make spaces seem more dynamic. This could be desired most in living or dining rooms.

⇒ Relaxation and Tranquility: Colder colours such as blue and green have a soothing effect and can help to reduce stress and anxiety. They are optimal for bedrooms or bathrooms where relaxation and regeneration are the main focus.

⇒ Vibrant colours allow the residents to express their personality and preferences. A choice of colours that match your individual style and preferences creates a sense of identity and belonging within your home.

⇒ An intelligent choice of colours can also help to influence the perceived size of a room. Lighter colours can make a room seem bigger and more open whilst darker colours can help to create a cozy atmosphere.

⇒ Colours can create a welcoming environment and thus aid social interaction. Rooms with warm and comforting colours can help to create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere where people like to spend time.

What needs to be considered?

It is important to consider that people can be affected differently by the colours in their environment. Personal preferences, cultural backgrounds, and personal experiences all play a role in the perception of colours. Therefore it is important to consider the specific desires and preferences of the inhabitants to achieve the optimal curation of colours.

When designing this small bathroom my clients trusted my process and I was able to convince them with the idea of a green bathroom.

In order to create a specially designed bathroom that fulfills all the needs of the residents I first need to understand my clients’ wishes and requirements. What functions should this bathroom fulfill? What style do they prefer? Are special requirements concerning accessibility to be considered?

Developing Floor Plans

The next step is developing a floor plan to create an optimal spatial program. The layout of sanitary installations such as showers, sinks, and toilets plays a vital role. Ergonomic considerations, spatial requirements, and functional drains should all be addressed and realized in the best way possible.

Light & Colour

For Bathrooms without natural lighting – such as this one – an efficient and atmospheric lighting concept is as important for the overall well-being as the choice of colours and materials.

To create a pleasant atmosphere we combined dimmable ceiling spotlights with indirect light effects. The round mirror with integrated shelves is illuminated with additional spots from above to allow optimal lighting for grooming or doing your make-up. All lighting components can be controlled individually through a smart control that allows the residents to set different lighting scenarios. A special accent is created by the illuminated shower niche.

Details such as these create a generous atmosphere in conjunction with the choice of colours. Green has a soothing effect and can revitalize body and mind. The combination with the wooden tones of the floor and the sink additionally creates a grounding effect and a connection to nature. Through all these carefully curated components this small room has developed into a bathroom where the residents can relax and like to spend time.
