How I want to live

In a world of fast-moving interior trends and seemingly perfect social media aesthetics, it may seem as if these standards also apply to our own homes. But be careful! In order not to chase after an illusion, we should treat our home as we do our personality: we should make sure to be ourselves, live our personal values and not let ourselves be told that the way we are or the way we live is not perfect.

A PLEA FOR RELAXED LIVING

For me, my apartment, the way I furnished and designed it, is perfect. And my “perfect” isn’t mega-luxurious or incredibly expensive. My apartment is authentic, it reflects my personality and the true value lies above all in the emotional connection I have to my home. It is my personal retreat, my favorite place, my refueling station. And it is precisely because of this emotional relevance that I put a lot of effort into the design and furnishings.

I have created a home for and with my family in which we all feel comfortable and secure. Neutral Instagram photo-readiness and the latest interior trends have no place here - at least not the latter if I don't feel them. We live, cry and laugh.

Red wine glasses sometimes fall onto the parquet floor and tomato sauce stains our chair upholstery. Every piece of furniture and every object is used for living, no matter how stylish or unique. That's what living is all about. What we should represent within our four walls is our way of life. In order for rooms to fulfill their function as a home, we must not simply furnish them functionally. It is important that we design our apartment or house according to our character and needs so that it becomes a home. We should make sure that the design and function are livable for us and that we identify with the mood of the rooms. Our home doesn’t have to be ‘perfect’ for anyone but ourselves!
